Have I Called Too Late?

from September Shelves (2018) by William Nein

lyrics

Lord I am trying to avoid all my neighbours
To live in a place where I don't see no faces
But I keep on dropping my keys drunkenly

I keep on thinking to move from the city
To live with the ghosts that aren't quite as pretty as here
But I can't quite get out of my seat

Am I too old to break the habits that I take
Have I called too late?

Instead I keep trying to remember myself
By listening to records that live on my shelf
Drinking wine as if all of the time hasn't passed

I talk to the person behind a counter
And just like an Englishman I mention the weather
Have I somehow slipped into the cliche?

Am I proud to wait, am I just to far away
Or have I called too late?
